DOP (dioctyl phthalate, also known as DEHP) is the most widely used plasticizer for PVC. Blended into PVC, it lets the polymer chains slide past one another, turning rigid PVC into the soft, flexible material used in cables, footwear, films and hoses. The more DOP added, the more flexible the finished product.
