Aliphatic Hydrocarbon Solvent

Low-odour, low-aromatic solvents for footwear and rubber adhesives, paints and inks.

Aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents are straight- and branched-chain petroleum solvents with a very low aromatic content. Compared with aromatic solvents such as toluene and xylene, they offer a milder odour and a gentler handling profile while still dissolving rubbers, waxes, oils and many resins effectively.

They are the backbone solvent of the footwear and rubber adhesive industry — used in solvent-based contact cements and rubber solutions — and are widely used as thinners in decorative and industrial paints, printing inks, rubber processing, degreasing and extraction. Aleemsons supplies a full range of aliphatic grades as a licensed importer and indenting agent, with certificates of analysis and full documentation.

Grades & Types

  • SBP (Special Boiling Point) Solvents — e.g. SBP 60/80, SBP 80/100
  • Hexane (extraction & adhesive grade)
  • Heptane
  • Aliphatic Naphtha / Solvent Naphtha (aliphatic)
  • White Spirit / Mineral Spirit (aliphatic)

Applications

  • Footwear & rubber adhesives (contact cements, rubber solutions)
  • Decorative & industrial paints (thinning)
  • Printing inks
  • Rubber processing & compounding
  • Degreasing, cleaning & extraction

Key Properties

  • Very low aromatic content — milder odour
  • Excellent solvency for rubbers, waxes and oils
  • Controlled, selectable evaporation range by grade
  • Gentler handling profile than aromatic solvents

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between aliphatic and aromatic solvents?

Aliphatic solvents (SBP, hexane, heptane, white spirit) are straight- or branched-chain hydrocarbons with very low aromatic content — milder in odour and gentler to handle. Aromatic solvents such as toluene and xylene have stronger solvency but a harsher odour profile. Many formulations use one or a blend of both.

Which grade should I use for footwear adhesives?

Footwear and rubber contact adhesives typically use SBP grades or hexane, chosen for their evaporation rate and how quickly the cement tacks off. Our technical team can help you match the grade to your process.

Is it a controlled chemical in Pakistan?

Several hydrocarbon solvents are controlled and can only be imported by licensed parties. Aleemsons holds the required government licenses and supplies with certificates of analysis, certificate of origin and full import documentation.

Can you supply in bulk or by indent?

Yes — from ready stock for regular requirements, and by indenting (direct factory-to-customer shipment) for bulk and container quantities.
